The IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Science Society has granted the 2019 Glenn F. Knoll Radiation Instrumentation Outstanding Achievement Award to Lothar Strüder from PNSensor GmbH and the University of Siegen. The award recognizes his exceptional contributions to innovative semiconductor device developments and fabrication of sensors with on-chip electronics, to state-of-the-art experiments in X-ray astronomy, XFEL and synchrotron science, and to X-ray fluorescence and diffraction instrumentation. Designed originally for experiments in basic research several of the developed detector systems are now widely used in industrial applications mainly XRF, XRD and in Transmission Electron Microscopes.
